CPR123 was founded by Sam Younessian and his wife, Maria, in 2006. Sam is certified as an RN, EMT-P, New York City and New York State Certified Paramedic, and Registered Professional Nurse with over 30 years’ experience in the healthcare industry. Sam is also a highly decorated Paramedic Lieutenant for the FDNY-EMS. Maria is a Family Nurse Practitioner with over 20 years of nursing experience in various hospital cardiology departments.
In 2006, Sam was working as a nurse and paramedic in New York City. Over the 20+ years he had been working as a paramedic, Sam saw the effects of the lack of training in CPR and choking. Every minute that CPR is delayed, there is a 10% decrease in survival chances. He recognized that if access to training courses spread, it could have a positive impact on a community.
Sam decided to begin offering training classes and began with one mannequin in the basement of his home. While his initial “classroom” and supplies were limited, his dedication to excellence and consistency never wavered. In time, the business grew too large for Sam’s basement and he began to research the requirements for operating a full-time AHA training center. He pursued certification and became a certified AHA training instructor. By 2011, Sam had added several more locations around New York City.
The CPR123 staff of instructors has worked in emergency rooms of various New York City hospitals and has dedicated countless hours to instructing members of volunteer ambulance associations and other professional organizations. We have already transformed hundreds of workplace environments and certified more than 100,000 students. Our goal is to empower individuals and organizations with state-of-the-art emergency response training, workplace consulting services, life-saving equipment, and affordable educational resources. We now share that goal with franchisees and look forward to building the brand and increasing accessibility across the country.
